1. Information We Collect

We collect the following information when you use WaveCheck:

• Account information you provide: name, username, email, authentication credentials, profile photo, and bio.
• Your date of birth, which we use to confirm you meet our minimum age requirement.
• Content you upload: photos, videos, and the wave, weather, and ocean conditions you log, along with the surf spot you select for each report.
• Device and usage data: device type, operating system, app version, IP address, crash logs, and basic interaction events used to diagnose issues and improve the app.
• Push notification token: if you grant notification permission, we store a token issued by Apple or Google so we can deliver alerts.

We do not track your device location in the background.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information to operate the platform, display your posts and profile to other users, send notifications you have opted into, prevent abuse and enforce our Terms of Service, and diagnose technical issues.

3. How We Share & Store Your Data

We do not sell your personal data. We share data with the cloud infrastructure and service providers who help us run WaveCheck, including database, authentication, and file storage providers, and with Apple and Google for app distribution, push notifications, and in-app billing. We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect the safety of our users.

WaveCheck is operated from Australia, and your data is stored and processed on servers located in Australia. If you access WaveCheck from outside Australia, your information is transferred to and stored in Australia, which may have data-protection laws different from those in your country. We take reasonable steps to keep it protected in line with this policy.

4. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information from unauthorised access, alteration, or destruction. No system is perfectly secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

5. Your Rights

You have the right to access, correct, or delete your personal data. You can manage most of this directly in your account settings, or contact us at support@wavecheck.app for assistance.

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active and delete it when you delete your account.

6. Children's Privacy

WaveCheck is not intended for users under the age of 16. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 16. If we become aware that we have collected information from a user under 16, we will delete the account and associated data.
